A bartender who is fast, efficient, outgoing, able to up sell and suggest higher priced options and keep customers entertained will make for a very successful bar operation. In most states the legal age for serving beer and alcohol is twenty one.
The key here is that regardless of how many drinks you know how to make, even if you mix up a horrible drink every time you bartend you can still bankroll some huge tips. When a customer requests a Daisy, this is an oversized drink of any strong and sour liquor like gin or rum and served with crushed ice, fruit syrup and a straw. It is somewhat impossible to know all of the possible mixtures of drink ingredients.
The bartender should arrange the liquors and drinks a special way, to ensure that you know where everything is. Bartenders can listen to customers, but they are not trained to give psychological advice. It shows the power of suggestion, when a bartender can take on the identity of a super hero.
Make it your priority in your interview to make the interview feel more like a conversation. Once you become a bartender you will be absolutely amazed at how often you make the same drinks.
